JOIN US FOR A DAY OF WORKSHOPS IN USING SOCIAL MEDIA FOR SOCIAL ACTION IN OAKLAND
Join us for a weekend of social media, social change and East Bay Beast Blogging, Oct 23 & 24, 2009 at Tech/Liminal, 268 14th Street, Oakland, CA 94612
October 23, Tech/Liminal: Social Media for Social Action Day of Training, 9-5 PM, admission, $10.00; pre-registration required.
This day of high-quality, low-cost, hands-on training workshops is focused on teaching nonprofit organizations and community groups a chance to learn and improve their skills in using social media and blogging.
The focus will be on practical and quick strategies that help non-profits use social media effectively to increase their visibility & presence on search engines, reach new audiences, deepen engagement with current audiences, and fund micro-donation. Hands-on workshops will help participants to use social media, plan and execute campaigns and programs and measure and evaluate results.
Workshops will be offered by experienced facilitators; sessions will include
- Effective Blogging for Non-Profits
- Building a social media strategy with Twitter, Facebook & Your Blog
- Using Multimedia & Video to get our your message (on a budget)
- Micro-donations: Online Best Practices
Who this is for: Members of non-profits and community organizations who have thought about using blogging and social media, but have not, and organizers who use social media but would like to sharpen their skills and learn how to plan and measure a campaign. Beginners welcome!
Cost for the day per staffer: $10.00, pre-registration and organizational affiliation required.
Convening organizations include Independent Arts & Media, Spot.us, Oakland Local, Newsdesk,org, and Urban Habitat.
October 24, Tech/Liminal: Beast Bloggers Meet up, 9-5 PM, admission, $20.00; pre-registration suggested, walk ins welcome.
Spot.Us returns to the East Bay with Version 2 of the Beast Blogger’s Bar Camp. This day-long meet up for new and experienced bloggers will feature time to mingle and hang out, but also offer practical, hands-on workshops including:
· Investigative Reporting basics (with Center for Investigative Reporting staffers)
· Using a FlipCam and adding more video to your site
· Making more money from your blog (case studies/strategies that work)
· Getting started with Blogging

Oh yea, and one hellava party somewhere cool(to which everyone from both days and outsiders will be invited).
