March 11 Meeting Agenda

  • Intros of group (20 minutes)--who are we? quick intros, plus working with sticky notes on a wall
  • Updates and news: Mission driven news--social media in community service/activism--Some of us have been talking to community groups in the Bay area and have buy in and interest to share, as well as info on what groups would find useful.  Others of us are tied into other movements and organizations and have the sense many people are looking for models to accomplish similar things--some sharing on that as well. (10 minutes)
  • Asks and projects(20 minutes): What are people working on where they'd like to share/ask for help/solicit feedback?
  • Big ideas: There's some strong interest in developing or adapting curriculum to do a day of teaching that would be convened with local groups and that would transfer knowledge and provide some follow-up support/mentoring. What does this group think about that? Other ideas? (15 minutes)
  • Outcomes: What do we need to do to follow up on the action items from this meeting? (15 minutes)
  • Next meetings-Let's establish the next 2 meetings so we can publish those dates (10 minutes)

Agenda

Ideas:

  • Inviting an umbrella community org (such as the Bay Area Equity Caucus) to come and discuss throwing a Barcamp-style social media training event with them for multiple groups
  • Asks and ideas from other non profits who attend and asks and shares from members on projects/kinds of work they want to offer.
  • Q&A session - anything from anyone, having to do with social media (questions could even be taken down and distrubuted for answering later)
  • Something related to causes.com (the FaceBook causes app) as they have offices upstairs!
  • A group convergent process designed to help us find shared interests/solutions in one area, since we'll have access to a sticky wall and some other useful tools; Raines could facilitate.
  • Networking and fun!

Notes

  • Susan M. has $40 for refreshments; maiki i. can match that; the site has a fridge, sink, and microwave and a corner store nearby
  • We could look into someone to donate some cool groovy new consumable. Social media types are the people to throw stuff at.
  • Amy Gahran has some public notes here.

Random Observations

  • maiki: I am not used to this wysiwyg interface, so please feel free to go in and mix things up.

Dear folks: I'm not sure of the best place to post this, but here's a rough draft of the event front page. I'm going to update and improve it a great deal, but, here's the initial dataset: http://artsandmedia.net/2009/03/journalism_innovations_ii_may.html
