Events we're working on:

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS August 27-28 event

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Public Media Collaborative will be doing volunteer training and workshops in social media at The Renaissance Journalism Project Summer Institute at San Francisco State University: 8/27-28.

The audience will be ethnic media staffers, members of small non-profits and grassroots news organizations; organizer is Professor Jon Funabiki, head of the Center for Renaissance Journalism, (see http://www.journalism.sfsu.edu/faculty/funabiki.shtml)

We need a lead presenter and 1-2 associate trainer for each of these programs (see below) and we also need “Genius bar” volunteers to do 1:1 staffing on social media and strategy.

Can you send me a note at mernit@gmail.com if you’re interested in volunteering and what you’d like to do?

We will have a prep meeting to share curriculum and prep before the event (and a summer social meetup):

* Social media and networking: Understanding and using the social media ecosystem

    * Is social media something you just don't get--but think you should?  It Workshop on getting started with Twitter, Facebook—and why it matters for you

    * Building your brand with social media: How can social media tools improve your brand and get you more revenue and traffic?

    * Using social media to reach your community: How does social media build c community and lead to action?

We have also organized some committee heads for a Fall event in Oakland on social media for social action;  more to come on that.
