Here is a start at organizing a list of services we can offer as a collaborative.
What do you think is important to have here?
A conversation about limits -- I am certain that there are more needs than we can meet. So let's be strategic and effective in what we do. We all have a bottom line to watch, as much as we are interested in community service.
I think there's a valuable tie-in or relationship between business and service that we should explore.
An opportunity to model business practices that encompass social justice considerations: we are willing to work with our local community.
[critique of capitalism -- pursuit of short-term proifts, externalizing costs = parasitic, dangerous and oppressive]
There are business reasons to offer services for free (this is an OS principal and a contemporary business model):
- ability to network with profesionals/peers --> opportuinities for work
- potential to convert clients with ongoing support --> possibility that recipients will follow up with specific contractors for paid or discount services.
- client referrals (recipients will promote our services)
- PMC will do it's own marketing --> each service project will be documented (small amount of promotional value)
With this type of approach, the goal would be to lure really qualified professionals to be a part of our network.
